i had my -etc destroyed and I partially restored it from -lostfound #inode files dont ask how now I get my packages
try using a locally connected monitor and follow /var/log/messages… check dmesg and sth like /var/log/secure?
don’t have local access at the moment
only thing I can think off…
I just emerged VLC player.. and it appears it doesn’t properly start. When you run vlc it just doesn’t actually start. But when you open a file with VLC it starts, but you don’t get any controls or functionality, it just plays.
Is it worth unmerging a emerging again?
perhaps you should define the wxwindows USE flag for it in package.use …
juc0, you forgot use flags, I am sure, check gentoo-wiki.com for vlc or check http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-gentoo.html
oh. What’s that do?
cheers guys
builds it with support for the wxWidgets GUI toolkit (which I guess is what you’re expecting).
probably will help till he misses sound on a dvd, or codecs…
and the player is named wxvlc
awesome. Cheers guys
anybody here familiar with bandwidth limiting using ‘tc’
gentoo juc0 handbook USE flags
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=2&chap=2
lartc.org — usually good ressource for that
That document contains detailed information about USE flags and how to use them
thanks
anyone using PAX or RSBAC with X + (Gnome or KDE) & (xine / vlc / mplayer)
i need shell email client program
is there now any ?
mutt
hmm, i still need help with my kde problem
not sure what to unmerge
it says its all conflicting with kde-base-3.5 but thats not installed =S
mutt, pine, cat/tail/less (last one mostly as a joke)
I can’t reproduce that here, file a bug please
can i use pop3 with pine ?
already filed
well this is gonna piss me off
i cant remove it, or anything
mind the language please
alright
unmerge says it doesnt exist, etc etc
I know
and it works here
as I can’t reproduce it it’s also hard to find the cause
yeh
it only happened after i emerge kuroo
when using the command “sendmail -t -i” to send an webmail hosting message, I get this error message when I go to send: sendmail: Authorization failed (535 5.7.1 Credentials Rejected 26sm3988529wra)
how can I fix it?
Hi. I was wondering if any of you managed to get doomsday to work on amd64 .. because I managed to compile and install it from portage, but when running it I’m getting a segmentation fault..
Where the whack can I find my init controls?
Want to enable sshd, but cannot find where
The easiest way is to use the rc-update scripts. Run “rc-update –help” for usage information
he might not want to have a steady ssh connection
merethan, /etc/init.d/sshd start , rc-update add sshd default – (starts it at default runlevel)
to control ssh you just need to use /etc/init.d/sshd start and sshd stop
You what?
me ?
I was talking about merethan
hey guys i need some help getting started with my first real gentoo install
o/
if I have KDE installed. Do I want a GTK use flag in my make.conf?
anyone got a few minutes
hi, I got this error while building eterm, could anyone identify what’s wrong? http://www.pastebin.com/d55572bba
its ok AllenJB I believe it wasnt a bad idea .. I misunderstand the need many times too
Probably. There are many useful programs that use GTK instead of KDE.
ok
Follow the handbook and if you encounter any issues ask the channel
I got -gtk in my use flags, but I still had to install gtk itself for compiz lol
ok my issue is on the first page of the handbook
i am unable to get online
exyan, nothing shows in that pastebin here
damn it
it recognizes my eth0 but it won’t pull any ip
any E17 peepz round?
does anyone made xgl work?
and i’m installing it on a box that has win 98 on it that works fine dhcp
this should now
USE flags only control optional features. If an application requires GTK, GTK will still be installed regardless of any USE flag values.
yes
Hi at all..
AllenJB I just changed added a gtk use flag, and did an emerge -pvuDN world – And nvidia-drivers came up. is it safe to remerge this?
I’ve This problem..can someone help me,please? http://pastebin.ca/640452
its like it just won’t pull from my dhcp server and when i plug in static ips they won’t route out to anything
AllenJB, those rc-update scripts are actually petty sweet.. RHEL has some stupid graphical client to do it.
i have tried 2007.0 and 2006.1 with the same problem on each
This is just an informational message. With the current setup, SSL/TLS will not work. If this error re-occurs every time you run Pine, your current setup is not
compatible with the configuration of your mail server. You may want to add the option
Gts1983, what do you mean dual boot?? have u set up the gateway (route add default gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) & then run dhcpcd -nd eth0
how can config this ssl ?
so I ask myself about the optional thing you mentioned … why would we need use flags for the video, image and audio codecs … I mean what are they needed for ?
Yes. nvidia-drivers has a gtk USE flag that controls whether the nvidia GUI application is installled or not.
i was emerge pine
hi, I got this error while building eterm, could anyone identify what’s wrong? http://pastebin.com/d55572bba
like png, gif, avi … ect …
They’re needed for playing video and sound and showing images o_O
did you install imlib?
no i’m not running dual boot
try running revdep-rebuild (part of gentoolkit)
i am about to install over the windows operating system that is working perfectly
yep
yes of course … but you said .. if they were needed by an application … lets say gimp … it would install them automaticly
and i really want to use dhcp
i think my server hosting has been rootkit’d
i can’t access ssh, but I can access sftp
that sucks.
any hacky thing I can do?
sec
Gts1983, then run route add default gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx && dhcpcd -nd eth0
I still don’t get what you mean. If a feature is required for a given package, that package won’t have a USE flag to control it.
once gentoo is installed configure net.eth0
ahh ok
I think you answered my question
can’t shh in as any user?
sorry bout the complication ^^
nope
i’ll try that brb
webmin running maybe?
no
just my litespeed server web admin
im writing PHP scripts to run commands
but I can only do so much as just a user
another question I got just now … there must be a tool then to get an output of all packages that support a certain USEflag that I ask for. So if I see those applications dont interest me with that option I could better decide rather to USE the flag or not. do you know a tool of that kind ?
what message do you get when trying to ssh in?
hangs on “Last login”
hrm, maybe no rootkit
if you hit ctrl+c there does it close the connection or bring you to a prompt?
was able to do a nice ps aux
nope it doesnt do anything
ok i can get a ps aux onto a webpage
want to see?
I think euse from the gentoolkit package (iirc) can do that
ahh ! I ll test it right now
cat /etc/passwd
you may just have an sshd issue
sec
yea
I realize its unstable, though, has anyone gotten the nvidia drivers to compile host against the latest git-sources of the linux kernel?
still the same
Does anyone know what the KDE packages are to have the performance monitor and mounted drives on a panel?
ok i did all that and it times out trying to discover a dhcp server
Please http://pastebin.ca/640452
when using the command “sendmail -t -i” to send an email message, I get this error message when I go to send: sendmail: Authorization failed (535 5.7.1 Credentials Rejected 26sm3988529wra)
I got this error while building eterm, could anyone identify what’s wrong? http://pastebin.com/d55572bba
Gts1983, what is your gateway ip?
192.168.0.1
i also got an error when trying to manually add the gateway ip
Hi. I was wondering if any of you managed to get doomsday to work on amd64 .. because I managed to compile and install it from portage, but when running it I’m getting a segmentation fault.. Any help?
so in ifconfig it doesn’t show one
VirtualBox is a vmware killer ! http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/9208/snapshot15da3.jpg
Thanks for the link! I’m now making my own “QoS table”… yeah, lets call it that…. The link you gave me rocks!
Gts1983, so if you run “route add default gw 192.168.0.1 && dhcpcd -nd eth0″ it times out?
let me do it again and get you the exact message
I like the “wondershaper” script
emerge -av imlib imlib2
when i type all that i get “network is unreachable”
DrEeevil how can i backup hole nfs directory there are / /home /usr /tmp /etc
I don’t know that script, but I like the fact that I now know how it actually works
sec
Gts1983, is 192.168.0.1 a router or windows ICS
i tried tar czfv bla.tar /diskless/client1/*
Also, can i use zfs on linux? I hear zfs isnt directly integrated into the kernel
linksys router
now I can manage my bittorrent speeds without interfering with latencies and my webserver/mail/ftp
that is running 5 other windows pc via dhcp
but if i veryfy the files he miss some
zfs-fuse works quite well, but it’s not very fast
Gts1983, and eth0 is wired or wireless
wired
Ah, ok
plugged straight into the router
Gts1983, are you running the minimal cd or the live cd?
i am using an older pc 500 mhz 192 mb of ram should i be using the x86 2007 minimal cd?
is positive then show the /tree/name-version of package
i have tried both
make /etc/conf.d/net blank and try /etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart
minimal is what i am using now
I can vouch for that
when i run the live cd i get an error about out of disc space and it won’t even boot
ok let me try that dcoats
Any reason why its slow? Isnt a filesystem a filesystem?
zfs-fuse uses fuse to integrate in the kernel, but the zfs process itself is implemented in userspace
Filesystem in USERSPACE
Ohh :-/
….although fuse filesystems can be quite fast
so all filesystemcalls make an addition switch from kernel to usercontext and back
i’ve had 10mb/sec on fuse filesystems tho
i get make command not found
…almost as good as ones in the kernel – eg. ntfs-3g
nothing, same stuff
*on zfs in particular even
ntfs-3g also uses fuse, and is quite fast
i have tried this on 2 pcs and seem to get the same problem on both
rm -rf /root/.revdep* && revdep-rebuild
Any reason why zfs cant be integrated directly into the kernel, isnt zfs open source?
should i try and different version of the cd?
I already did revdep-rebuild
rm -rf /root/.revdep* && revdep-rebuild
i have tried 2006.1 and 2007.0 x86 minimal
k
zfs-fuse also lags behind the Sun official code checkins
it’s incompatible with GPL, and would require some changes to the linux host vfs core
is the module for your card loaded?
i’m not sure how to tell?
Ah.
sorry i am a little new at this
for starters what does lspci say your network adapter is?
ZFS basically replaces the whole VFS and then some
when using the command “sendmail -t -i” to send an email message, I get this error message when I go to send: sendmail: Authorization failed (535 5.7.1 Credentials Rejected 26sm3988529wra)
“Sys_Error: Couldn’t find pak0.pk3.”
eithernet controller is davicom semiconducter
where do I get that file from?
you have to provide it
Gts1983, try route add deafult gw 192.168.0.1 && ifconfig 192.168.0.0/24 && ping 192.168.0.1
you need it from the retail q3, meaning you have to buy it
ah, I see
everytime i try route add default gw i get “network is unreachable”
you may be interested in btrfs, which is aiming to have similar capabilities to zfs, without pooled storage
it can be from the windows version of the q3 cd
i think that card is tulip
I see
lsmod show tulip loaded?
thats what net-setup says tuilp
lsmod does show tulip loaded
same errors
Ill take a look, thanks
btw what’s the package for power tools or something, to switch between performance/powersaver etc?
ok since that one is obviously not going to work can i give you the errors i’m getting with the other pc
its an irq error
any ideas?
not really, thats all it took for me to build eterm
Gts1983, modprobe -r tulip && modprobe -i tulip && route add default gw 192.168.0.1 && dhcpcd -nd eth0
what version of eterm r u usin?
I_R_baboon lemme try that
0.9.4
win#1 – Status window, win#2 – Messages window
how do I tell portage to redownload portage?
is it possible to find out what is making my apache not wanting to listen @ port 80? i did /etc/init.d/apache2 restart and now port80 still seems to be used :/
I mean the sources, not portage lol
informative, but why are you telling us?
misstype
–fetchonly ?
stop apache, wait 10 seconds, then start again
emerge –fetchonly
lol, sorry. i am just messing around irssi and it came out by accident
i stopped it yesterday and still not working ^^
does only download @ exyan
you have to erase the file in /usr/portage/distfiles/ before, though; then –fetchonly should do the trick
hmm, netstat -lp ?
it should overwrite the package shouldnt it ?
“network is unreachable”
coz I’m running out of ideas, noone digs the error ;x
I mean the downloaded source
only if there’s an incorrect md5 / manifest there
hmm
Gts1983, route -nee
and i’m not really sure about that, too
thank you, i found the program now
ahh well its ok I clear ../distfiles/* pretty often
“if shows me a list of possible usages of that the route command”
try http://gentoo.easyshellz.com/gentoo/etc/conf.d/net.basic as /etc/conf.d/net
didnt have problems with md5 and MANIFEST hosting in the last 8 months … last thing was just a customized ebuild that I had to digest
with me it’s the exact opposite: i have a whole partition with 10+ gb reserved only for distfiles xD
Gts1983, no numbers (stuff like a table)?
no ir baboon no table
delete em what you need em for ?
do you wanna open a new Record ?
it’s on my router. he’s playing rsync-server for my network and i find it convenient for it to store my packages for faster dl
sweet
additionally it’s some kind of social conciousness — although I don’t pay for traffic, universities, mirrors and such do.
Hello. So, on the bonehead scale if 0 = feasible and 10 = ‘leave this channel, now’ … how bonehead is it to think I can make the switch from an amd64 laptop to an intel64 and just transplant the harddrive so long as I compile an intel kernel first?
is it alright to # comment the files in /etc/portage ?
yes
I’ve this error emerging glitz
VirtualBox is a vmware killer !
hi all
what cflags?
Driver for device wlan0 has been compiled with version 22
of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 20.
Some things may be broken…
5
currently… -march=athlon64 -O2 -msse3 -pipe
What parts of portage can I clean up to save space safely?
/usr/portage/distfiles
thats the only one
http://gentoo-wiki.com/TIP_Free_up_disk_space_in_Gentoo
and /var/tmp/portage/
ya breakin my heart… but if that’s the way it’s gotta be… :-/
wrong ^^
oha
Gts1983, do what dcoats says, try dhcpcd -k eth0 && dhcpcd -nd eth0, if no luck reboot & try again , laterz
reserve a sole partition for it – that’s the way i did it xD
I guess I never cared that much about my disk space lol have enough space
Sol partition for what?
i have 300gig+ – still i run into shortages occasionally xD
for your distfiles-dir
and then mount it to /usr/portage/distfiles/
hello, how to change the system-wide date format? (I dislike the one included in my locales)
so rm -rf /var/tmp/portage/* ?
can’t be bothered looking at the gcc man page, but does your cflags mean 3DNow is enabled as well?
but ONLY if portage is not running right now xD
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=30547
nono its taking a nap
^^
lol its taking a lot of time
who can tell me whether i should make AF_RXRPC as M or do not use it?
did you look at the description in the kernel ?
there probably are lots of aborted compiles in there. imagine a glibc-compile to freak and dumping ALL it’s stuff extracted in one dir … HUGE ^^
usually it says “If unsure do NOT activate”
santanabaer,thank you
hope I really helped ya
always read the help part of the option you want to build
it says a lot
8 T72 logger: acpid: received a shutdown
8 T72 init: Switching to runlevel:
any idea what did that ?
it says acpid did
lol
dcoats, yeah, but why ? :/
lol
low battery, energy shortage, timed shutdown — everything’s possible.
timed ? I didn’t tell it to do that
no battery
desktop
have a look in the bios
Hi – I am still having problems getting alsa to work. I have been following this excellent guide http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml#initscript
probably the bios sent a signal
I disable acpi on my desktops
tomboy64, why would it do that ?
can I emerge avant-window-navigator on gentoo? or do I have to use the svn repo.
you could probably switch across with few if any issues, just make sure you recompile certain packages with -3dnow if they have that use flag
I compliled the drivers into the kernel, not as a module
tomboy64, no overheating
does –unmerge remove package dependencies, and if so, does it check to make sure they aren’t used by other packages?
well, i have an option for it to shutdown the computer
could have been a temp shutdown by bios settings
thats not it
besides it wasn’t doing anything
and my computer shuts down nicely if i hit the power-button for a short time.
Enmity, no sound at all?
disable acpi in the bios then
tomboy64, lol
grr
when I run “/etc/init.d/alsasound start” I get “*unable to find any ALSA drivers. Have you compiled your drivers correctly?”
another problem is that gentoo itself uses about 9 gb or something- I don’t think I can account for all that in installed stuff- tmp dir is empty; distfiles too :/
no emerge –depclean is used to remove unused dep’s, but it’s very likely to break things
Enmity, I suppose the script expects modules
I am sure I compiled the drivers correctly, I followed the guide at thinkwiki, chose the right chipset for my model,
so can I expect –unmerge to *not* uninstall dependencies for a package at all?
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=30547
aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav – noise or error?
no such device
have a look at krusader – it’s a file-manager for kde. there you have the option to display the used diskspace of the current dir in a cake-diagram
yes, it will only remove that package, nothing else
Hey guys, back. My box problems from last night are NOT hardware, I managed to get XP working. It’s strange that this stuff won’t work in Gentoo though, it must be something in the boot flags. Has anyone done a Gentoo install from 2007.0 on an AM2 NForce 590 system before?
ok thanks
i found it very useful for finding mem-eaters
nope, no sound, lots of errors
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml
Enmity, anyway – alsa is best used as modules
I have a 570, works nicely
Hmm ok, will recompile as modules
also windows is not as intensive as gentoo during install …
Enmity, at least when it comes to troubleshooting
did you have to do anything weird with it? I get to “probing device ide0″ and it freezes every time.
dcoats, tks, looked there already
I always tend to have more problems with modules
oh, got one of those jmicron “ide controller” thingies?
tomboy64, current dir only ? I checked the home dir already; I can’t imagine what takes space in the rest of the file system
nick well, the current dir and it’s subdirs to be exact.
in different rings
the ide controller is onboard, it doesn’t say who makes the controller. I’d have to do some digging.
tomboy64, ok- I don’t suppose u know something like that for gnome ?
DrEeevil, it’s a DFI LanParty UT board, which people have told me repeatedly works well in Gentoo. I’ve also tried Ubu, Kanotix, and Kubuntu live CDs and nothing booted.
DrEeevil, thought jmicron were mainly on intel boards and not nvidia
i got it run fine under gnome — you just have to install and wait for qt and kdelibs to compile xD
jmicron
worst controller
I have a bloody jmicron chip on an nvidia board- works like crap
ok, now I feel like an idiot, going back through make menuconfig, it was selected as a module anyway
hmm, anything attached to IDE ?
I wouldn’t even call that a controller
DrEeevil, yeah, the CD/DVD it’s booting from
xdiskusage also shows what files/dir’s are taking up space
fortunately its used for ide only not sata
loki_chaos, tks
DrEeevil, that’s why I’m so bloody confused, because I know the drive works, I’ve used it in another box, and it’s *booting* from same.
it’s an ide-to-usb converter hack
i have via sata controller which don’t like my dvd writer
hmm, strange
yeah, it’s not a harddisk … many cheap controllers suffer from that
what’s the package for flash :/?
netscape-flash
i can read cd/dvd’s but can’t write
loki_chaos, does that go deep enough ?
DrEeevil, I know, that’s the problem, it’s being weird beyond what I generally know. I can tell you now with 100% certainty there’s no failed hardware, the minute XP finishes booting.
hi all , I have downloaded the language pack for eclipse, how can I install it?
Driver for device wlan0 has been compiled with version 22somethings might be broken
hard to say what happens without knowing what controller(s) you got
you invoke it as xdiskusage /usr, and it will do /usr and all dirs and sub-dirs
Hmm – alsaconf ran fine, told me to have lots of fun even, but when I tried alsamixer again I got “function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device” again
then when using iwconfig to set the essid for the device ig et
Error for wireless request “Set Encode” (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported.
daum daum #
Well, the mainboard manual nor the magical Internet man want to tell me what IDE controller I’ve got. Gimme a minute to keep looking, but I’m currently assuming it’s an Nvidia.
doh=
loki_chaos, tks
Kuprin lspci doesn’t say?
Kuprin, have you tried the cds from http://www.kernel-of-truth.net/downloads_kOT.html? they’re not official but include some extra IDE drivers
it won’t do individual files in it’s diagram, unless you tell it to, some flag… but it’s kinda slow and takes a lot of HD reads, so it will slow other stuff down
No, I haven’t tried that
teach daum nopaste
nopaste is a tool written in ruby, which allows you to specify a file or pipe stuff at, and it gives you a URL at rafb.net with the text that it got. Examples: 1) nopaste /var/log/portage/somelog.log 2) dmesg | grep -i network | nopaste or) Alternatively you can use wgetpaste, which does not depend on ruby.
Kevin`, I have to be booted to something to get LSPCI. I’ll see if Windows will tell me.
k
hi
how would you go about to get xorg rotated on a flatscreen they rotates?
anyways any ideas on the problem
Kuprin windows will tell you the pci ids, if you find the correct device, but you have to look them up manually
Kevin`, how do I do that? I went into device manager and it wouldn’t tell me a whole lot
it’s in the tabs
well, its late here, I will sleep on it and try again another night. thanks anyway all
if I was on dinwos i’d tell you exactly where, but i’m using gentoo at the moment
that was an interesting typo
windows suxxxx
Dim Woes?
Kevin`, lol, yeah. I looked around the tabs and found the PC number, but I’m not sure where to look them up manually from there.
Kuprin google or /usr/share/misc/pci.ids
kevin’ PCI Bus 0, Device 12, Function 0 is what I should be looking up? That’s all it will tell me id-wise.
this is location
how do i rebuild all installed packages?
emerge -e world
ok thanks
it’s a bit hidden, something like DEVICE_ID=8556&4332 or so
you want two four-digit numbers
What does “emake failed” means?
O_o where? I looked through all of the advanced tabs in the device properties for the IDE controllers
it means that emake was unable to complete successfully
if I had any windows near me I could tell you
but … it is gone
DrEeevil, yeah, I know, I hate running windows
What should I do? Emerge a particoular package? Cause Is the second package today..
Funny thing is, Ubuntu does a different thing entirely when I try it, it simply locks up to a blank screen…unless that’s the manifestation of the same bug in ubu.
But all the error comes from emerging og media-libs package..can This help?
there should be some kind of error message happening a few lines above it
the “emake failed” is only a notice that an error happened
pastebin the 20 lines or so above it and I might be able to tell you what happened
There are no useful messages..
what makes you say that
x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc: /usr/lib64/libGL.so: No such file or directory
that is a rather obvious message
Ah.. mh. and..so I miss that file?
DrEeevil, Kevin`, Windows won’t give me a device ID from Device Manager. It’s just reading out as a standard IDE channel.
ah, I think you’re looking at the wrong device
ide channel is part of ide controller iirc
DrEeevil, O_o hmmm…then what device should I be looking at, because there’s no ide controller showing.

DrEeevil, I hate Windows for a reason, y’know. Why can’t they give me lspci? Also, their activation server is down so I have a 30 day timebomb sitting on my machine.
sounds like they want you to migrate
can you run lspci under cygwin
as far as I know no
DrEeevil, I never wanted Windows running on this box in the first place.
Kuprin, you can also get Belarc or Sandra
I guess I’ll grab sandra
sounds kinky
Oh, and those KernelOfTruth cds use an old 2.6.16 kernel that apparently “may or may not be compatible with nforce 500 chipsets”
Aha, found one with a 2.6.19 kernel, nvm
Kuprin, better download http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html no install!
grknight, thanks!
for a linux channel y’all know way too much windows magic
okay, I have an nvidia Bus Master IDE controller.
Kuprin, what’s the PCI ID numbers?
grknight, 8-digit number? O_o…hmm, 32411E6FE060 is the only id number, which is a bit long
Kuprin, should be like PCI\VEN_8086DEV_266FSUBSYS_009B1025
grknight, oh, okay, you want the first entry in that “path” bit, not the last.
grknight, found that, PCI\VEN_10EDEV_036ESUBSYS_CB8410DEREV_A1\32411E6FE060
grknight, googling that gets me nothing, however.
that is not a pci id
looks more like a windows activation key
Its pretty safe and efficent to re-emerge something with new use flags to get new features right? What if i remove a use flag from a package, will depclean clear unused depedencies?
ROFL, it’s not an activation key, it’s listed as the device ID
I have four Hardware IDs listed below that, the first one is the above minux the last number
*minus, not minux
depclean usually should find unused depencies yes … but always check with emerge -p –depclean first
Yes, depclean and revdep-rebuild will clean up. It’s a lot harder to add, since there is no easy way to compile hosting just what needs to be compiled.
How can I solve that problem?
can I compile straight kernel source as my new kernel
Depending on what needs recompiling an emerge -e package might be enough.
emerge vanilla-sources
Well mean say, i install pidgin, and uh oh, i need gtk suppotr, add use, re-emerge, and lets say i dont want gtk use anymore, if i remeger with the -gtk flag, the gtk features will be gone after depclean your saying?
not sure, that looks like a bug
Ah ok.
DrEeevil, thank you
can anyone recommend a mailthread aware emailclient?
This urxvtd daemon is kinda cool, never though of using it before
mozilla-thunderbird
Yes, but it’s a bad idea. The point of distro kernels is that it’s end user material, where vanilla is something you need to add patches and stuff to yourself, only something high end sysadmins should be messing with.
if you re-emerge it already without gtk USE flag … then gtk support is gone … depclean is there to clean the gtk dependencies then that the package might not need anymore
Vinky, Claws?
Kuprin, odd.. vendor ID 10E isnt registred… it should be 4 numbers.. wonder why yours is only 3
10DE is, and I now have it as that
Ah ok. Just wanna make sure if i play around with flags, i wont have orphaned deps laying around
grknight, 10DE is Nvidia, but the device itself, 036E, isn’t registered.
I’ve the same error emerging glitz..
grknight, apparently nforce 5 isn’t registered at all on pcidatabase.com
grknight, GOT IT. MCP55 IDE Controller just as I thought.
kuprin, Subsystems for device 10de:036e: MCP55 IDE
yes, all opengl applications are broken on your system
So..Should I reemerge opengl?
I wouldn’t worry so much about the orphaned deps
grknight, just got it myself, yeah. So…what should I do? That’s supposed to be supported in Linux.
Kuprin, there is probably a BIOS glitch or something.. try to boot with `gentoo noapic` if you haven’t tried that
grknight, trying that.
can’t login anymore. I’m not promptet for password, it just says “login failed” three times. I first noticed this in other consoles while I was emerging stuff, and after a reboot I can’t login at any consoles anymore.
Like the ‘enter’ key was stuck, but it works fine in other linux installatinos and in windows.
grknight, bios glitches suck. Hopefully I can get this infernal thing working, I HATE WINDOWS!!!
orphaned deps occupy usuful disk space of course it needs to be removed
and I believe its good to have an overview over your system
grknight, gentoo noapic WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *HUGS TIGHT*
Kuprin, you’re bios is goofy.. try to update it
grknight, if you’re ever in Ottawa I owe you a drink. I’ll see what I can do.
grknight, what does noapic do again? I forget.
lol
Why is that?
Kuprin, apic is a signaling method
why worry?
Kuprin, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Programmable_Interrupt_Controller
grknight, thanks for the reminder. Appreciate it. Anyway, I’ll go hit up Windows for some bios update-age before I install Gentoo then.
Well, to keep a nice clean system, with only the needed packages and dependencies that are included in the world file
I agree with niriven
ehm why do gnupg-1.9 depend on gnupg-1.4?
Anyone knows why I’m not prompted for password on login anymore, and the login simply fails?
And the besy way to keep it as such is depclean? or, does that miss things at times
if you use it regularly it’s pretty decent
depclean was considered to do mistakes sometimes
but the first time you run it you might need to take care
depclean is much safer than it used to be. You should always use –ask or –pretend with –depclean to check the list first tho.
you said their re working on the depclean option to optimize it right ?
Miravlix, whats wrong with adding patches myself
my update alias is like emerge -uDN world && emerge –depclean && revdep-rebuild && dispatch-conf
my update alias is like emerge -uDN world && emerge –depclean && revdep-rebuild && dispatch-conf
yeah, my script is in the tree already
ahh great
dunno, it just does
Well thats a full update, i mean, if your playing around, isntalling, uninstlling, changing uses back and forth, doing this, doing that, etc, the best way to keep the system clean is?
you should also run revdep-rebuild afterwards
but the real way to optimize revdep is to use scanelf; however, we’re still a ways off on that
emerge -uDN world && emerge –depclean && revdep-rebuild
why should it change?
I actually am looking for one special tool .. let me explain u
after ivman mounts a USB hdd? will pulling the plug “safely” unmount it if it’s not being used?
Ah well, it shouldnt, but thats more of an update thena c lean eh?
it’s not safe to run depclean when portage is in an inconsistent state
have you ever seen a tool that would, list all the installed packages on the system with a certain use flag support
Wow, apparently XP can’t activate itself anymore because it’s “discontinued”. God bless Linux.
the gpg2-experimental tool may remove the dependency you are referring to, or it may not
yeah, I think portage-utils’ “q” can do that
kojiro niriven run revdep-rebuild before emerge –depclean
Ah, gotcha. so your saying its safe to say, of couse, to uDN world depclean revdep and the system will remain clean over time
no need
equery hasuse USEFLAG
great !
generally, yes
friendly12345, nope it didnt
of course, it’s *always* a good idea to eyeball what depclean plans to remove
Yeah
but I haven’t had it remove anything in a dangerous way in over 6 months
like leaving you with only gcc-4.2?
i maen, what attracted me to gentoo is the wonderful package management, just wanna make sure its as good as it hink it is
the q utilities are quicker, if you can do the same function though
heh
we’re not talking –prune here
I didn’t need –prune
in fact there are tons of utilities that can do that
I’m satisfied with the function of equery … great hint
just I never did read about it
maybe I was blind
while we’re on world update and useflags, what is the command to re-compile packages based on new use-flags with paludis?
I dunno, im a clean freak when it comes to my OS’s
or is it implicit?
#paludis
ah sry
What about major updates, will gentoo packagea management clean pretty well, say you have xorg 6.9, you ugprade to 7.2
but portage questinos don’t have to go to #portage?
actually my intense aim is to lower the number of installed packages … I want to make my gentoo fast again like in the old days … if you check Packages installed: 731 ; Packages in world: 264; Packages in system: 55 you know what I mean
two different things
I don’t mean it has to go there. Just better chance for good answer, is all.
upgrading removes the older version automatically
how to get a total amount of the CPU load (in %)?
Ok. First time here so I was unsure about the politics, and the message of the day is too long for my irc client to read
297, Packages in world: 27,Packages in system: 55, YaY!
infact now you know what I mean
when trying to login to my system, I’m not promptet for password, instead the login fails. Thus I can’t login and can’t do nothing
just on that topic, any chance the existing ebuild specification will be fully documented by the end of the year?
but well my system is from 25. Feb 2006 I can be proud
what’s there to clean? 6.9 will be unmerged automatically and 7.2 merged along with dependencies, if there’s something orphaned –depclean will take care of it (although it’s unlikely there will be in this example)
usually /topic prints it in your client
TOPIC Not enough parameters
Ah.
Thanks.
ah got it DrEeevil. /topic #gentoo did the trick.
bah my sore throat is killing me
and that on summer .
Santanabaer:
but I’m strong
i ll resist
hey guys i was woundering if someone could offer some advice when i install stuff from cpan the modules from portage takes pressidences so it does not see the upgrades or diffrent versions thay i have installed via cpan is there a way to change the presences of packages?
I’d recommend using g-cpan (in the package of the same name iirc) to create portage packages for the modules.
alot of our stuff auto installs the modules as it needs them and it grabs them from cpan
..if the modules are pre-installed though then it won’t right? can you not just pre-install them with g-cpan/emerge ?
yes
so does that mean i have to -perl use flag and then reinstall the packages?
I got xfce4, fluxbox and kde installed at same time
….? i dont think so…. i defer to AllenJB
you try several till you find one you like.
if that was the reason .. well than I would sit here … and switch between them every day … but I dont… they just lay here on my HDs until somebody asks me “hey man, what does fluxbox look like?”
if that was the reason .. well than I would sit here … and switch between them every day … but I dont… they just lay here on my HDs until somebody asks me “hey man, what does fluxbox look like?”
see my point? Im probably stupid to not delete em
isn’t that what VMs are for?
is there a program that fetches cd covers to the music automatically?
i mean standalone
not a media player plugin
maybe maybe
nah, overkill
a1ex`: i doubt it… maybe a cddb client will.. dunno.
a1ex`: i take it googling is taking too long?
could someone remind me, what is the command to list all the possible versions of a package, for example dev-db/mysql ?
what is goole
g
I prolly just love every package that I cant let go a deep love relationship to every package
never heard of it
a1ex`: that’s not funny
eix is your friend
eix (with some options), or just go to http://packages.gentoo.org
thanks
a1ex`: eix -S covers yielded 4 results
if im on the live cd and I cant get x to start, can is there a way to run the no gui install from the live cd?
hm
a1ex`: app-cdr/disc-cover
i even tried googling
sure, just follow the handbook
but i didnt look in the repos :
ty
a1ex`: dunno if that fetches images of say….Amazon
a1ex`: *off
you may want the network install of gentoo
“albumart” seems to be exactly what ive been looking for
(pacman, archlinux)
like yngwin said .. its all on the Gentoo handbook
I dont want to do everything manualy, I would really rather run the live install..is there a way to do that?
how can I get GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc on the opensource radeon driver?
i think there is a text based installer, but it’s not recommended, the installer still has bugs, so the manual install is recommended
what driver should i use for radeon ati 7500 mobility?
yeah how do I run that installer
anything that works according to what you’re prepared to live with
lol friendly12345 good explained
emerge driconf, and run it as normal user, you can enable it from there
nm I figured it out
according to the handbook the command is installer-dialog
just browse to the Desktop of the gentoo profile and run installer haha
thanks
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/2007.0/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=4
driver “radeon”, xf86-video-ati ebuild
grknight, I updated the bios and it still doesn’t work without noapic
Kuprin, then either a BIOS option is not sane, or it’s just poor
you know you gave me a hint to equery hasuse … before … what is in the case I didnt want it aswell as for the installed packages and the uninstalled ones ?
grknight, interesting, I’ll look into it, but DFI’s lanparty boards are generally considered to have the best bios you can get.
oops friendly12345 sorry I misspelled my idea
quse USEFLAG
Kuprin, there are some fine bios tuning options that can affect this.. so you live with noapic or you find the cause
I mean I would like it even for non installed packages
ahh you understood me ?
^
^^ thx I test it now
…what is it you’re looking for? i missed the first question
I configured driconf to handle s3tc textures, and now quake4 starts
grknight, any bios settings you know of that might cause it? Also, how much impact will noapic have on my system?
how to list all the packages (even ones not installed) which have a certain use flag
ahh cool
but the screen is flickering
Kuprin, not sure.. maybe others would know
thanks!
any idea why?
*_AxS_
i believe friendly12345 helped me already I was looking for a tool (same ability of equery hasuse) just that it lists even non installed ones
Anyone know what bios options would cause me to need noapic to boot?
I can’t help with that, sorry.
np
cool tnx
seems to be machine-specific problems, I have one that must be booted with noacpi
could be anything: that’s a common issue
noacpi or noapic?
noapic, not noacpi.
k thought so
…..well maybe not anything
dont thank me thank friendly12345
cool tnx
I know the difference
just saying, some machines are temperamental and need these extra tricks
now its a lot of work … I will type in every single use flag
will take me some hours
….why?
cat /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc
because I want to 100 % optimize my system to the useflags and see which packets I really dont need
K, hold on – I just looked up apic and realized something: it’s an INTEL achitecture, isn’t it?
ahh
the AM2? no, that’s amd
and reduce the # of 731 installed packages
DrEeevil, no, APIC, not the AM2 lol
has nothing to do with it
start with the flags in your default profile, if it’s the desktop one
euse -i USE is also useful for descriptions
is the gentoo webpage setting background and foreground colors but no color for links?
hm distdir defaults to /usr/portage/distfiles right?
ahh thx Im goin to consider that
yeah, emerge –info shows the actual list of use flags you have enabled.
alright thx
yes
DrEeevil, weird, http://rafb.net/p/KBuVth55.html
I wont need cat use.desc I have 4 terminals running … 1 for equery hasuse … 1 for quse 1 for ufed/package.use 1 for unmerging and other changes
buuug
Okay, disabling ACPI in the bios for some reason lets APIC work. Weird?
you can also look at the gentoo-portage site, if you think that might be quicker (unofficial)
…if ACPI is disabled in the bios, can the linux kernel still use it?
DrEeevil, I guessed so, where the h*** does it put the files
ok
oiiiiiiiiiiii
not sure
_AxS_, I suspect not
do you have an alternate dir specified in make.conf?
hi everyone, can someone help with emerge postgre from 8.0.13 to 8.2.4? I get:
could not connect to database postgres: FATAL: database files are incompatible with server
The data directory was initialized by PostgreSQL version 8.2, which is not compatible with this version 8.0.13.
_AxS_, no
Your configuration file sets the server type “Apache”" when I webapp-config -I, I have emerged apache with USE=”apache2″…
very strange.
I would say yes to your question
Can /dev/urandom make use of multiple cores / smp?
DrEeevil, _AxS_ ok, I found links to the files in /var/tmp/portage/mail-client/mozilla-thunderbird-2.0.0.5/distdir, to nonexistent files
friendly12345, so if I disable ACPI in the bios I can still make use of it normally in the kernel?
….even though I have no evidence. Depends on BIOS as well. CPU frequency scaling works I think, and isn’t that related to ACPI?
you could pop in in #gentoo-bugs and report it
friendly12345, yeah, I believe it is.
good chance that you get a direct response
DrEeevil, reporting bugs is boring…
no, it’s fun
see if you can manage to file bugs faster than devs close them …
And level-up to become an Expert Bugmaster of the 3rd Degree.
XD
you have to beat the evil jakub to get there
and only a few people know his fatal weakness
He’s way down on dungeon level 99 though.
beer?
shhhh ….
:p
kegs of beer

Hi there, I’m trying to get tightvnc going on my Gentoo server, and it starts as it’s supposed to, but when I log in, all I see is a grey screen. I’ve added “startkde &” to ~/.vnc/xstartup – Any suggestions?
Is X running on your Gentoo server?
I’ve followed the KDE guide from the Gentoo handbook, and as far as I understand KDE is dependant on KDE, so I assume it is. Is there any way I can check?
Sounds like X is running fine, but you don’t have a window manager
The X default desktop is a grey screen with a X as cursor
Yup, that’s what I got now
What happens if you remove the ‘&’?
He simply needs to trouble shoot why kde isn’t starting
i had a question?
Removing the & don’t seem to have an effect
Can you run KDE locally on the machine?
With startx, etc?
Let me check, I’ll just pay it a visit
Don’t ask to ask, just ask.
uh huh
I was tempted to get mzbot to ‘teach’ him. But thought better of it.
aaroe do you have .xintrc in ~/ ?
aaroe if not make one and put “exec startkde” in it
hey fokls
hey lyzMrae
oops aaroe put that file in the ~/.vnc/xstartup
We need to first make sure kde works on his machine locally.
lol cruxeternus
not where I said 1st aaroe (imissed that you were doing this for vnc) ;?
ok cruxeternus the he needs to put it where I said to 1st
~/.xinitrc
KDE don’t seem to be willing to launch locally either.
the worst thing in the overall procedure to clean the system of unused applications and wrong flags is always have to wait for packages to recompile when doing emerge -auND world
I’ll post the error message, 2 secs.
Short question to the gentoo crowd here. I’d like to triple boot with linux (ubuntu) , windows xp and linux(gentoo). Would that be hard to accomplish?
Short question to the gentoo crowd here. I’d like to triple boot with linux (ubuntu) , windows xp and linux(gentoo). Would that be hard to accomplish?
alright, good idea
yep. a good reason to try and do it all in one go.
Not at all. Just a tip… it’s easiest if you install Windows first.
DrChandra actually I thought _AxS_ had forgotten if he even wanted to ask something “I had a question(?)”
lol
yeah
actually i was responding to a guy that appparently answered my question, that i didn’t know i asked.
cruxeternus, yeah……windows kills everything. Even installing windows vista (ugh….don’t try it!) killed me XP install. So I have to fxmbr first anyhow to get my xp back.
aaroe how are you trying to launch it?
Then get grub back.
And I suppose I could then just install gentoo and modify grub?
Vista–
_AxS_ ahhhh, even funnier
(running ubuntu now so my grub is already working)
That’s what I would do… manage GRUB from the Gentoo install.
alright good
anyone worked with heartbeat / lvs ?
you can’t boot xp from grub yet? ie, u need to fixmbr first?
Getting back to gentoo from ubuntu but I want a easy way trough.
Or, if you’re using Ubuntu, that’s fine too. Just want to use the same one, to avoid any weird version inconsistencies in config files or whatever.
_AxS_, yeah can’t boot yet. Vista killed XP
ahh
so vista is getting deleted……fxmbr for xp and then I’ll be up and running xp again.
Vista kills a lot of things. Kittens, especially.
So that means that I have to reinstall grub anyhow
Yeah everytime you run Vista a kitten gets killed.
So don’t do it
hehe
guys, do you know where i could get a nice laptop?
not too expensive
so.. anyone looking for gentoo help?
In my ~/.xinitrc I have exec startkde
Not a Gentoo question. But try eBay
psych, if you steal one from my room. But it won’t be easy I garantuee you
Alright, give us a moment to review.
Ofcourse
Ah, you don’t even have X properly configured yet.
At least one Device section is required.
seems pretty obvious to me
Can you post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf?
hooray!
I must say that from every linux distribution I tried Gentoo is the best.
fixed my nvidia woes
Just not nice on a slow pc
Hm, I might as well ask what it should contain. It’s empty which puzzles me since I recall editing it last night…
cruxeternus “no devices in xorg.conf” ?????
Each distribution has strenghts and weaknesses for given situations.
cruxeternus, yup
Might just keep Ubuntu on my PC as well.
didnt kno $HOME/xorg.conf took precedence over /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Keeping gentoo clean
but realized while reading the log
If you pastebin it, we can tell you.
what have you done since last night?
….? it does?
evidently
i didn’t know you could have a per-user xorg.conf
give it a try
hi
good to know actually DeBugger__
it’s me again with another problem :-[
put an empty xorg.conf in your home
Easiest is to `wgetpaste /etc/X11/xorg.conf` (emerge wgetpaste, if you haven’t already)
is there a way to tell emerge where to install a package?
my /etc/Z11xorg.conf is empty
never herd of that cruxeternus
what do you mean?
X11/xorg.conf I meant
Err, oops?
Xorg -configure , then use the generated one as a basis
Yes, that’s what I don’t understand either since I recall editing it last night…
You need to go through the Gentoo X11 configuration guide.
thats neato wgetpaste
I guess giving you the problem is better: I want to install a game, but I don’t have enough space on my linux drive left, so I wanted to install it on another drive
I’ve got my two hard disks configured for RAID using the onboard controller, and I want to be able to dual-boot the system. Linux sees the drives as two separate devices, however. Is there any way around it?
gentoo X configuration
ahhh… ..no.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml
Don’t know what’ve went wrong, but I guess I better go through that guide again
wow, that was short ^^
sure ? :’(
I use “nopaste” myself
the best idea would be to move some of your current install to the other drive — integrate it.
Depends on ‘ruby’
and?
take say, /home and move it to this new drive, and then mount it in place of /home — for instance
yeah, did that exactly
Extra deps for people to emerge. wgetpaste only uses wget, which is already on Gentoo installs… so it’s quicker and more efficient
but this time I must move /usr/share/games or something I guess
wgetpaste uses which site?
whatever, thanks
mount –bind might be useful for you
(which you can do in fstab also, to make it permanent)
hm, mount –bind ?
It supports pastebin.ca, pastebin.osuosl.org, rafb.net/paste, and sh.nu/p
ahh
mounts a source directory to a target directory. (instead of a source device / source filesystem)
just found this in the docu Since Linux 2.5.1 it is possible to atomically move a mounted tree to
another place. The call is
mount –move olddir newdir
sorry
…..haven’t heard of that one.. –bind might have turned into that..?
no
err, vice-versa, that might have turned into –bind ?
try “man mount”
“–move”, “–bind” is directly above it
but it’s new
2.5.1 is not that long away
(wow, bad English )
Uh, it’s like 6 years ago
_ oh
…it doesn’t say exactly _what_ that does tho. i’d be weary of using it without more info
that’s why I asked you ^^
I’ll try #mount or something :-[
thanks so far
make a dir, move the files from the other dir, them mount –bind /path/to/newdir /path/to/olddir
and add a line in fstab so it’ll always do that
OR, if you have a spare whole partition, no need to use –bind
I’ll look for a tutorial, that way is more elegant I guess if it works
weellll cruxeternus, as long as you are looking at xorg.conf’s …I can’t get my wheel to work. do you see anything I missed in my pointer config? http://rafb.net/p/8HXWLS37.html
no, I don’t this time
Is there an app in portage that will let you edit a PDF file to add fields for users to add text, such as in a form?
could anybody help me with DDoS? ping -f nb-240.bialnet.com.pl -s 1400
#networking
Tried removing the extra space in “4 5 “? If that doesn’t help, might investigate whether the wheel is actually mapped to buttons 4 and 5.
….there are certainly ways, but i don’t know of any particular application that just does it, like adobe does
or is somebody else familiar with “mount –move” ?
And are you really using an old Logitech MouseMan PS/2 mouse? I loved those things!
why not make some dirs, fill ‘em with a few small files, and test it to see what it does?
Hey good morning! I had just exported a Word doc to PDF and it contains a scanned form and I need users to be able to add the persons name on the line. I am browsing packages.gentoo.org but I am afraid I am going to have to use Adobe Acrobat.
_ or I’ll just do it
ty cruxeternus , Yes, the big fat mouse with the thumb button
crazy as I’m _
1st gen
Xfig and flpsed might help
Just wondering. Is grub installed on the primary HD partition or on a seperate partition? I want to totally remove my windows vista C partition but don’t want to damage a boot partition of grub.
Nice. Well, that config should work. :/ Might want to play around with `xev` (`emerge xev`) to see what X thinks your wheel buttons are mapped to.
it’s a little big for my taste but I figure I will map the 6th button to a tuner or rec since this is being built as a simple dvr
Cool! I’ll give it a shot
I did try xev cruxeternus but I thought that only worked with a evdev setup?
I think it works in all cases.
and cruxeternus showed no response to the wheel, but the thumb button shows as button 2 (middle)
Oh, then that could be a problem… you have any other mice you could test with?
here’s a tutorial http://xrl.us/3nmp
And/or can you test that mouse on another system and confirm that the wheel works?
ok, cruxeternus, I will restart X here with the new config 1st, then swap around if that doesn work
Sounds good.
cya l8r
what about resizing a partition using gparted, does that work well?
hello
Wow thanks again
benny99 , works great!
sarcasm? or does it really ?
works great, really.
*closes eyes* wish me luck then
it can, yep.
I installed Ubuntu and resized my windows drivers.
uh
drives
(wow, bad englsih)
As with all fs operations, *make backups*.
cruxeternus, true
i haven’t used it much, and to be honest i do’t really trust it, but the few times i have used it, it never failed.
ok… let’s hope it works
I trust it. Works really good and not much can go wrong. Except power failure or something else.
i had my /etc destroyed and I partially restored it from /lost+found #inode files (don’t ask how). now I get my packages compiled with -X, -jpeg etc. although I restored my old make.conf. Which is the file which holds such super-flags? I use gentoo accept keywords ~x86, and maybe the system itself had recently started asking for explicit X jpeg etc? what else did my system loose (i re-emerged nearly whole world –newuse) ?
Never without risk.
(what use flags)?
Did you also correctly reset your /etc/make.profile?
is your make.profile correct?
gnah, I just create a new folder and that’s it
just as easy.
yaeh, but I must creat it in my “home” directory then
/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2007.0
is that a problem?
evening
yeah, that’s not clean :-[
u had an ati card right?
here’s the line for fstab: /tgt/dir /home/srcdir none bind 0 0
That profile doesn’t include X and other things. YOu probably want the ‘desktop’ subdirectory of that profiule.
yep
meh. so yo uhave a homedir for ‘games’
could you tell me which one, and what versions are u running, xorg, xorg-server, kernel etc
hi everyone…is it possible to force the install of an ebuild that fails a file size check? ebuild is not in standard tree and i am having trouble contacting the creator…thanks
…for which generation of hardware? you mean the all-in-wonder?
but my brand new gentoo-stable new laptop (default installation from Gentoo 2007.0 LiveCD) has symlink to the same point
thanks
Learn how to used the ‘ebuild’ tool to reset the file digests.
i mean, just ur package versions.. im going crazy with my ati-problems
and driver version
I’m just saying, that profile doesn’t include the X flag by default. Your laptop might have X in your /etc/make.conf?
ah. well, i use OSS drivers, its a radeon 7500m (or something), and its just stock Xorg that i use
ah.. so no fglrx problems then
yes.. you’re right
right. no fglrx
but it’s quite quircky this way
what version of ati-drivers are you using? ~arch?
cruxeternus
and what card do u have?
did you try to tab-complete ‘thanks’?
ahh so ebuild digest /pathtoebuild ? something like that?
i’ve tried them all
9700
guys
I forget the exact syntax (been a while) ‘man ebuild’, though
where can i make it so windows will float over cube in compiz?
not just lie on it
now i just removed xorg and all confs and im gonna reinstall it and try once more.. i just lost my mouse in X
ebuild file.ebuild command
this is getting too weird
yup reading now, thanks had never used this before(never had a need)
OH right. you’re that guy. yeah i have no idea whats going on with your system.
ure sure the fan didn’t die on the vid card right?
you are too smart
yeh, it works just fine on OSS drivers
i pressed tab accidently
lol
hm.
something really strange is happening on my X anyhow
k.. gl
Not smart. Experienced.
yea funny
either way, i have to reinstall the whole system soon, so i suppose that would make things better
I finally got the idea ^^
anyhow, bbl, ill let you know how it all goes
also, if you want a really big hammer, get scribus
hum, in gnome, i’ve only got like 5 screensavers to choose from, how would i add more?
google for more and install them?
heh ok and they will the nshow up in the tool?
screensavers are a waste of electricity. turn yorumonitor off when you’renot using it. (:
i assume when you put them in the right place, and then maybe (if this is really necessary) log out and log in again, then they will show up
is there a screensaver section in the portage tree?
and i’m with SkunkyFone
ill be away for like 5minutes.
i doubt it
not hours on end
hey thanks got it worked out appreciate it
that’swhat they all say.
