el_isma lol im having a hard time understanding the default behaviour of deny hosts i even used your conf file
Free SFTP and FTP client for Windows”
gustavo, you’ll probably need to speak with the net admin then.. ask him about ftp passive setting on the routing equip
el_isma, you really think i care about windows programs?
You weren’t sure about winscp and sftp…
el_isma, i told the channel that sftp and scp are not synonymous– you made it seem their equivalent.. but heard scp is not good (as good)
ok
scp is quite good
I’m going to bed. Good night/day everyone
night
metbsd, it’s slower.. ought to rather use sftp..
who do i have to kill to let myself use the loop module (in other words, what group do i need to add myself to so i don’t have to use sudo when mounting an .iso
good
)
hey all, what controls whether doing, say, ping myhost, will resolve myhost to myhost.mydomain.com?
and where does wpa_supplicant look for it’s .conf … /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf, or /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf, or either, or neither?
(it works on some of my servers but not others…)
and how do is see/set the gateway on one of those
dns or hosts file or wins or so… arp?
omg
try wheel?
they put that in debian didn’t they iirc?
The group `wheel’ does not exist.
nope
i thought the;y did
i seem to remember doing that once
Hey, how can I resolve the dependency of libmp3lame.so by Audacity in order to export as MP3?
apt-rdepends?
but you don’t seem to mean packages
interesting, i never heard of apt-rdepends and I don’t have it installed
!info apt-rdepends
iirc
apt-rdepends: (Recursively lists package dependencies), section utils, is optional. Version: 1.3.0-1 (sid), Packaged size: 13 kB, Installed size: 92 kB
Anyone know why my samba server would take a long time to respond when discovering PCs on the network, and accessing the root of a share – but be blazing fast browsing through shares?
strangely enough, I have wheel, maybe because is a legacy from my original install: Woody
no it wouldn’t be woody
check your PAM, it might be there but commented
but is there a way to search through a list of _all_ files provided by _all_ packages for _one_ specific filename?
c7a7uk, install lame from debian-multimedia
maybe sarge
c7a7uk, on the web in http://packages.debian.org or using the tool apt-file
I know for a fact that wheel is “not” recommended but it should be there
c7a7uk, but you wont find it since its not in debian, it’s in debian-multimedia
thanks
but failing wheel, there must be some group or permission that would let users mount an iso
debian-media must be new
used to be marillat
!debian-multimedia
from memory, debian-multimedia is a repository of unofficial Debian packages, not in Debian for various legal reasons, maintained by Christian Marillat. For instructions to add APT sources, ask me about debian-multimedia.etch.
don’t know about any other group. I allways used and still use wheel
same guy new channel
I’ve used Ubuntu media but I couldn’t find a Debian equivalent when I switched, other than PLF except that they are also very distro-specific … (ubuntu/mandrake)
that one rocks for a/v
!debian-multimedia.etch
/etc/apt/sources.list; apt-get update; (as root)
who is jm_ ?
he knows stuff
c7a7uk, just pick your closest mirror http://debian-multimedia.org/mirrors.html and install the debian-multimedia-keyring (thatone is in debian main)
!apt-key 1F41B907
gpg –keyserver subkeys.pgp.net –recv-keys 1F41B907 ; gpg –export 1F41B907 | sudo apt-key add -
!apt-key 1F41B907 is also just install the debian-multimedia-keyring package
gpg –keyserver subkeys.pgp.net –recv-keys 1F41B907 is also just install the debian-multimedia-keyring package ; gpg –export 1F41B907 is also just install the debian-multimedia-keyring package | sudo apt-key add -
thanks all
lol
fix it
must be the pipe
!apt-key 1F41B907
gpg –keyserver subkeys.pgp.net –recv-keys 1F41B907 ; gpg –export 1F41B907 | sudo apt-key add -
was not changed
!apt-key 7357
gpg –keyserver subkeys.pgp.net –recv-keys 7357 ; gpg –export 7357 | sudo apt-key add -
ugpg –keyserver subkeys.pgp.net –recv-keys 7357 ; gpg –export 7357 | sudo apt-key add -/u
!apt-key test 7w0
gpg –keyserver subkeys.pgp.net –recv-keys test 7w0 ; gpg –export test 7w0 | sudo apt-key add -
aha
can you spot the pattern yet?
!apt-key test two 7hr33 done.
gpg –keyserver subkeys.pgp.net –recv-keys test two 7hr33 done. ; gpg –export test two 7hr33 done. | sudo apt-key add -

stop it please
yeh
ah mister stew, thank you!
just a touch… a touch too much….
so genuii, how do i let a user mount an iso
that’s the plural of genuis
:p
what’s a genuis?
you’ve been silenced for 10 minutes. please keep it constuctive in the fugure
i dunno
is it like a penuis or more like a genius?
i met a few
please dont use the bot to call random people morons, even when they are being morons
mmmm
or at least one
played him chess all the time
then why does the bot have a !moron function?
did not win once
moron (.*?)
….
c7a7uk, also if you want to play with the bots, you can do that in msg type /msg dpkg whatever and you can have a chat with the bot without bothering the 725 other people in this channel
!msg
(1) Use private messages to the bots to reduce channel spam, but don’t message people on #debian without asking permission first. Most questions should be asked on channel, so that others can benefit from the question and the answers received. (2) Always feel free to message freenode network staff. They’re the people with hostnames ending in ’staff.freenode’. (3) Monosodium glutamate, a food additive (see http://truthinlabeling.org/).
gah
i don’t give a crap when you call abrotman a moron. when its someone who is new here seeking help, i have a problem with it
where’s the play with the bots in the bot channel factoid
jetscreamer, you think that confused him less
(as an example)
the bot should have an abuse limit #/min by same nick
!botabuse
lay off me you buggerererers!!11!
he gave up seeking help and started in being a moron.
hahh
then use ignore or call ops
stew can it be done? 3 queries/min by same nick
in any case, your views are noted.
!botplay
Stop playing with me; you’ll go blind!
i can’t remember
can you please use /msg with the bot?
man fstab?
posed to the?
hello honorable cydork
just an idea …
Azar, sorry was just trying to remember the answer to jetscreamer’s question
!list
one warez list being sent to shogunx
hello
i would love a list of factoids
i mean, it’s not like i’m not in the sudo group and nopassword et al, but i get tired of repetitively typing sudo just to mount an iso
I guess is online
!factoids
The fingerprints of koala bears are virtually indistinguishable from those of humans, so much so that they could be confused at a crime scene
My factoids are available at http://rzlab.ucr.edu/~dpkg/ They are updated nightly and the previous 18 days are archived. there is a searchable database of my factoids at http://dpkg.vireo.org/
mister cydork just has done one
thank you
oh, and i finally got my wireless working, and it connects to the ap, gets an ip from dhcp… but the internet still doesn’t work?
hey who said is hard to get wireless, how about wicd?
well there is no network connectivity rather
apparent
with wicd?
what is wicd
http://wicd.sourceforge.net/about.php
http://cydork.mine.nu/~vihang/dpkg/debmoo.html (also check http://dpkg.vireo.org)
I see ubuntu is using it heavily
in irssi how can i split window vertically
Do you have any idea why there would be a package just for a keyring when users can just use gpg/apt-key?
package thing is easier ?
how can i check if my debian system is sane and that there isn’t any misconfiguration?
shutdown -r now
sudo*
less work for the user?
are you suggesting i should not be using debian?
Either way they’re just copying one execution line from an IRC bot into a terminal.. It just seems that if all the keyring package will do is issue gpg and apt-key .. then it’s not worth the extra clutter of a package.
And no vedant I’m suggesting that if your system is able to reboot into your desktop then it’s sane enough for use.
the majority of debian users don’t talk to bots on irc
yeah. umm ok
you should probably just ignore c7a7uk
there is probably no way to figure out what you are trying to figure out in any automated way
I /query dpkg atleast once a day.
the amazing thing to me is that courier-authdaemond worked 2 days earlier, but today it didn’t cos authdaemonrc was missing
i have no idea how such a thing can happen
so i just wanted to be sure that other things are working all right
did you recently upgrade from sarge to etch? are your sources pointing to stable?
i recently upgraded from etch to testing
sources point to testing
how i can clean this in APT, “No solution found within the allotted time.”, automatic harder solution & -f not work
well nm, it doesnt really matter what your sources are pointing to, debian wouldn’t have removed a config file on you without you going out of your way
heh. i know that. perhaps auth somehow worked at that time without the rc file
not possible
bad i haven’t initialized the aide database yet
ok i have an ip, correct subnet, gateway…. i can’t ping my router. is the network trying to use eth0 somehow … it’s not up. would there be some config file that tells it to use the nic?
wlan0 is up
and apparently configured correctly, but it’s still not working
well
network connectivity isn’t
/etc/network/interfaces
is configured correctly apparent
ly
also might want to check /etc/resolv.conf
ah
i have nameservers
iirc they are the correct ones /me checks
my WAP is the only nameserver listing in there..
yep
is your router in there?
no, but it’s not in this one either
‘this one’?
-_-
‘this’
testing on two separate computers?
as opposed to the one that’s not connected
no, same network… same bedroom.
as if I can telepathically view your network topology
one wired one wireless
okay so
testing on two separate computers?
no
pcmcia only in the laptop
it connects to the ap
it gets it’s ip et al from dhcp
i guess the laptop just isn’t trying to use the interface
is this ‘ap’ the same ‘router’ you’re referring to?
yeah
can you ping public addresses via the pcmcia card?
(debian.org)
hey
can someone help me out with my X please
im having issued im using ppc
no, but i didn’t try by ip externally, jus tthe router
rafb.net/paste
Joint, what kind of problems?
What video card?
nope
ping says
peration not permitted
which seems different (weird)
ifconfig ?
works fine
looks fine
it will say operation not permitted when icmp is being disallowed by iptables
pastebin for the world to see?
c7a7uk i’ll tell you right now
it’s not connected
ok … what i think is the system is set to use eth0 and isn’t trying wlan0 … is there a thing/file/conf for something like that?
ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 Re/SG
that’s the vide card that i have c7a7uk
your routing table
/join #ATI
interesting
what exactly are you trying to do?
the values returned by route are correct.
stew started my X
and indicate wlan0
which driver are you using? ati? radeon? fglrx?
wait brb
ifdown wlan0 && ifup wlan0
becuase ‘ip route’ and ‘ip rule’ i don’t know what else could be affecting it
and you shouldn’t have any ‘ip rule’s without knowing about it
stew i think there’s a bug on the X
probably many. what makes you say that though?
well it says no screens found
in fact i used the front end thing to turn them off
that just means that it can’t find a usable configuration with the combination of the hardware it has and the configuration you ahve given it
wlan0 interface doesn’t ahve a list of peers/access-points
!noscreensfound
hmm… noscreensfound is probably dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and SAY NO to the framebuffer question. If that doesn’t work, ask me about “troubleshooting x” NOT A SODDING ERROR. read your xorg log to find the actual problem. There will be an earlier error (marked “(EE)”) that is the actual problem.
