im about to instal grub on amd64 gentoo it says Important If you are using a non-multilib profile you should not
my problems started right away. im trying to boot the 2007.0 minimal cd and it is getting a drive error about a 3rd of the way through loading…. I get this error “Loading isolinux: Disk error 80, AX = 4217, drive 9f”
Hmm, always fun creating your own bootsplash, have finally got mine fully working after about 2 days of work, with full icons showing up for services in the correct order, little icons on the icons showing the status of the script, whether it started successfully or failed, progress bar with bar above it where the text resides, and also some objects that the bar passes under, all working, with uvesafb and squashutils 1.5, always fun.
but the font stuff is quite ok
hehe i know where he’s coming from, but his manner is a bit off
i agree..hey, he’s a finn
heh
write up a howto for the forums, please
then give us the url
Oh, for all that stuff, I guess, I guess complete with this installation, 1 month later since I started building it.
Disk error 80, AX = 4217, drive 9f”?
yay!
sounds like your cd-rom is b0rked
Since this thing boots pretty much like a livecd, substituting the ram for a directory on the hard drive and squashfs images that are loaded and put together with aufs, gotta love the kamikaze sources.
did you verify the burn?
#gentoo-chat man, this is support
no. I did not verify the burn
ill do that now
Hehe.
k
Gotta love baselayout 2, about 25 second boot from grub to kdm. Also with the things squashed, installation takes a tiny 1G of disk space.
hey, can i somehow find out what kernel clause a certain module uses?
I’m having a problem starting XGL when I run xinit $clientargs — $serverargs -deferglyphs 16 & inside KDE i get a server already active for display error
i seem to have e100 and e1000 loaded
when I run it outside of X it boots into the stock X interface and won’t let me do anything or exit X
#gentoo-xeffects benc if no one here answers
and the nic is e pro 100 according to lsmod
so “Cannot find $EPATCH_SOURCE!” tells me that that is not set in the ebuild while emerge would rather see it, or..?
I’ve tried there, no one seems to have an answer igli
delete the e1000 from kernel drc822
well only answer i have is that you need quotes round your vars, which is not the problem afaics
im about to instal grub on amd64 gentoo. it says: “Important: If you are using a non-multilib profile, you should not emerge grub, but instead you should emerge grub-static.” which one should i emerge?
if in doubt, static would always be safe
ty
where points /ets/make.profile to?
isn’t multilib default now? (use static)
brb perhaps, going to check and make sure suspend to ram/disk works…
SmatZ, /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/amd64/2007.0
yeah, it was useless i suppose
ayooooooo
I’m having an interesting problem with qc-usb. For no apparent reason, qc-usb stopped functioning. Just out of the blue – now it shows a green screen, and crashes most programs when you try it.
i hate vmware. i can’t make the cunting thing work with my cable modem.
i think im bangin on all cylinders now
language: no need to use the word vmware
might be udev being overeager; but you’ll know if the NIC stops working
It worked fine a few weeks ago. :/
you’ll know why*
i want to try a gentoo desktop
language
but the damn thing is refusing to work
is it not possible to use vmware bridged networking when your cable modem dhcp’s a public ip to your newtork card?
hehee
i tried giving the vmware host an ip in the same subnet but i can’t ping the modem
is it not possible for you to apologise for your offensive words, mark25?
well there’s Virtualbox….
i know that the module is e100,just need to find it
igli sorry
heh well you can search in kernel config
ok mark25
i did, i could allways just vim the config but i will forget if i dont do it now on menuconfig
so ill just check help on every one till i see it
http://overlays.gentoo.org/proj/vmware/browser/trunk/app-emulation/vmware-workstation-tools/vmware-workstation-tools-6.0.0.45731.ebuild does not contain anthing about any $EPATCH_SOURCE, either – so do I need to set that somewhere and just leave it blank?
/search
you should never need to set that with an ebuild
what’s the issue?
found it allready
I get “Cannot find $EPATCH_SOURCE!” as error if I try to emerge
hey.. in grub.conf, if i have a sda instead of hda, should i change all the (hd0,0) things to (sd0,0)?
no.
luckz, so i heep it as hd0
?
Well, there we go, suspending to ram and disk both work, in console and in X. Sweet, definitely going to save this installation.
yeah
u sure?
hd0,0 yes
ok
so report bug in ebuild
that just is the first HD grub finds
and also
Can anyone tell me what this line of code does and why I can’t get it to work
xinit $clientargs — /usr/bin/Xgl -br -ac -accel xv:pbuffer -accel glx:pbuffer $serverargs -deferglyphs 16 &
i see the splashimage line in there. how can i tell if i can run that ?
hd not sd
I’d rather make it work somehow :p any idea if there’s something the ebuild creator might have forgotten?
or should i leave it commented out?
heh #gentoo-dev-help luckz
just get it running first, you can play with that after; iirc it’s just the background, so it should be safe tho
kk
read second part
leave the splash
its not good anyhow, u see it for like a second on boot
k
do i need framebuffer configured to use it though?
becuase i didn’t configure framebuffer i dont think
no
but set timeout to 10 seconds, not 1
Terve
hehe
terve Lamperi
i think 1 sec is good
yes dear
So I got a headset with a mic. I wanna use my mic with TS and Skype. How do I get it to work? My friends can’t hear me.
I am at a total loss on how to get XGL installed. I’ve wen’t through the wiki walkthrough but I can’t figure out how to start XGL the codes it give me don’t do anything
näitä aamupöhinöitä
tai ilta
_
Hey, everyone.
in a console run: alsamixer and get your mic to appear in Krecord or w/e
I see no Krecord.
nice, vesa-tng is now in the kernel without a patcj
hey guys
it’s in my multimedia sub-menu, you might need to emerge it rorachan
i just tried to boot up gentoo for the firs ttime
and i got a krenel panic…
helps me
auts
so close to being done!
igli, yeah I’m doing that now.
cannot mount root?
“VFS: Cannot open root device “sda3″ or unknown-block(0,0)
Is anyone here familliar with installing XGL?
please append a correct “root=” bot option
*boot
you didn’t compile in support for your disk controller
yeah
yeah, do that
i didnt?
crap dude!
i dont know
you didn’t
not as module, built-in
sigh
lspci
how do i do that?
kernel bleh root=/dev/sda1 or something
in grub conf i suppose
drc822, as a separate line?
NO
lspci will tell you chipset
ok, well im booting my live cd again
you need to google it to find out linux driver
good idea
i have no idea where to start
=/
linux driver for what?
it’s ok, we’re here, and we’ve done it hundreds of times
for the controller
chipset
ok, so first of all, how do i find out what chipset/controller i have
which package is for software RAID again?
mdadm
acknowledged
lspci b14ck
‘mornin folks
what’s the point of a 64 bit kernel with a 32 bit userspace
igli, i just started my live cd. how do i like chroot back into my harddrive so im not on the live cd anymore?
1 sec i’ll get you link b14ck
thanks
njbair, no point at all expect being able to run old applications
on what arch?
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-3516331.html#3516331
has anyone here used vmware-server on a gentoo install?
amd64
yeah i have BHuxley it’s lovely
BHuxley, i have used it…
waltz, ??
lspci should show you the scsi scontroller
what?
if this was about scsi.. im only 40% here
well, now im just waiting for the compile so i’d say 55%
so when people talk about a 32 bit userspace does that mean every single app is 32?
im unable to compile the current non-masked version of vmware-modules
vmware-modules-1.0.0.15-r1
what package uses the VIDEO_CARDS variable? it was something related to opengl, glx, or mesa
drc822, im using a sata drive
coudlnt even install distcc yet
ok sata then
cc1plus: warning: command line option “-Wstrict-prototypes” is valid for C/ObjC but not for C++
yeah someone else is having a problem with those, BHuxley, if you want to help, they’re in #gentoo-dev-help
then about 4 more of those and a bunch of task.c:337: error: ‘-’ cannot appear in a constant-expression
i’d ask you just to file a bug tho
mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/bugzilla-howto.xml
mount -o bind /dev /mnt/gentoo/dev
okay cool, I’ll start there and see what I can come up with
thanks
yw
and then chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
er this is all in the url
in make.conf which flag gets precedence? eg USE=”first second last”
last
thsnks
why have conflicting flags tho?
can there be two flags that dont mix?
cannot run command ‘/bin/bash’: no such file or directory
and, is there any way to remove packages WITH checking dependencies to remove them also?
not afaik, they might conflict within a package though
–with-bdeps=yes or something when doing –depclean ferret_0567
USE=”-gnome gnome -gnome gnome….” !
drop the bin/bash then
ur on the livecd now?
man emerge|portage|make.conf
yes drc822 and even without the /bin/bash, it still give sme the same message
is there anything like package.use that i can set certain apps to compile in 32bit instead of the default 64 from make.conf?
hmm…
did you read the url?
it has *all* the insns you need
mount the /mnt/gentoo first
you didn;t mount /mnt/gentoo yeah
no
I’m having an interesting problem with qc-usb. For no apparent reason, qc-usb stopped functioning. Just out of the blue – now it shows a green screen, and crashes most programs when you try it.
It worked fine a few weeks ago. :/
you need to umount all that other stuff first tho
tsawolf:
oops
Uh… hi again.
sorry i have nfc what qc-usb is
I’m using TiLP to connect my TI-84+ to my computer, but it says that ttyS0 doesn’t have read permissions for non-root. Is it safe to chmod /dev/ttyS0?
hi
got it
It’s a video driver.
i’d look in dmesg tho
did u boot after u did fdisk?
i had to mount /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda3 as /mnt/gentoo/boot && /dev/gentoo
ye
drc822, errrrr
then do the proc n stuff
ya i did
check if the files are there
its workin now
ok
im in the chroted environment
Bluhd, that wont last after a reboot
errr /dev/gentoo ?
i did that last time
i would say have a look at devd.conf
I thought about that as well
actually i usually forget to do it everytime
drc822, now i have no lspci command tho
Oh, uh, webcam driver.
what do u have in /mnt/gentoo?
or you can also mark the binary as suid….. Bluhd
did you mount –bind *after* mnt/gentoo ?
drc822, no
like dev usr etc??
ffs
drc822, i cant cd there anymore because i am *in* it
Hello, some tool to convert udf iso, to ISO-9660?
hmm
go back a bit
mount it and then use mkisofs with the files
ok
exited outta the chrooted environ. now in /mnt/gentoo i have bin, dev, home, etc
before u chroot u need to mount proc and bind /dev in /mnt/gentoo/…
ok, now mount boot if u have it
Can anyone lend a hand installing XGL
[R]: ahhh, nice idea!
did already
i think i just dont have lspci installed
I can walk you through it if you have an nvidia care
that command
mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
s/care/card
you have an ATI?
Yes
drc822, alreayd did
ATI
i’m sorry
and /dev?
I can record myself with krecord but when I open TS, it says my mic is muted.
mounted
k, go to proc
do lspci in another terminal
ok
u havent installed it yet on ur chrooted env
in another terminal i can use it
yeh
clear
so check in there…
I can’t find devd.conf
ok so im looking at the outpoot, but i have no clue what im looking for lol
there should be something about a sata controller and what not
me neither, never had sata
i see SMBus and IDE interface which are like the only close things i believe
the rest is like PCI, USB, VGA, AUDIO, ethernet, OHST BRIDGE
Bluhd, a min
*HOST
ok
hmm.. i really dont know anything about sata things
besides that its serial ata
does ur MB have builtin sata?
can u like at least tell me what i have to do to be able to boot my computer? do i need to recompile my kernel again or something?
drc822, yes
pretty much every new computer does
its a new dell comp
well i suppose u need to rebuild the kernel
k
I have two sata ports but I don’t use them, therefore I left it out of my kernel
do menuconfig again and check the sata section
IDE ftw, etc
ok
Nothing useful, I’m afraid.
see if there something familiar
What’s the command to write to the syslogd?
you upgraded kernel recently?
logger
drc822, ok
Well… kinda.
But I recompiled qc-usb already.
heh neat
xscreensavers in fluxbox
Bluhd, its not in /etc?
as background
man 5 devd.conf …
anyone know what I need to do after I emerge XGL
I did sudo find | grep devd.conf and nothing showed up
Bluhd, man 5 devd.conf says what?
1 sec
brb breakfast
michael@cthulhu ~ $ man 5 devd.conf
No entry for devd.conf in section 5 of the manual
eh…
hold on
what about kernel modules?
i mixed up gentoo and freebsd
modules-rebuild list
hehe
devd.conf is on freebsd
make.conf
man make.conf
“well, thar’s yer problem”
er actually i don’t know what you’re talking about, so ignore me ;0
I still need to figure out how to get nautilus to display icons
oops
Bluhd, have a look at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/devfs-guide.xml
brb breakfast
yo
is SATA like uncommon or someihtng?
I thought it was like the new standard
Why do the drivers in the kernel config list SATA drivers as (experimental)?
you’re looking at an old kernel then
anything newer than 12 months is experimental per definition, you might be looking at an old kernel
pfft isp
i think maybe i shouldn’t have gone with 64-bit gentoo
64bit gentoo rocks my socks off
Gentle`, I’m looking at 22 r2
why did webapp-config just whipe out my b2evolution _basic_config.php?
pretty sure it doesnt say experimental
[R], what do you do about apps that won’t run?
ah, sata has been rewritten, there is the old stable driver and the new experimental driver
like what?
ya…
[R]: he means the sata driver that’s not inside SCSI devices
anyway. I just included support for every single sata driver in there
Gentle`: no… the “new” driver is the stable one
So if it doens’t boot now I’ll be angry.
[R], i haven’t gotten java in firefox, beryl, qdvdauthor to work
[R]: it doesn’t support my chipset yet, unlike the old one
well you want compiz-fusion, not beryl… but it should work fine… java host in firefxo you need to use firefox-bin
Gentle`: that doesnt negate what i just said
good luck
[R]: of course not, compatibility is not in relation to stability, but the old driver is not really unstable
[R], where is the benefit of 64
i’ve read even compiling is slower
whats the command you give for ls to give you a list of EVERY folder and subfolder ad infinitum in a seperate txt document
I haven’t noticed that
Biggest obvious benefit is access to a large memory space
list.txt
try find
i’m talking for desktop use
i did it an ls way and it worked for me
no gaming or serving
Gentle`: i never said it was
amd64 works great for desktops, servers, etc.
if youre having problems, hit up #gentoo-amd64
there is none… who said there was
Some extra registers, although the differences would little been sean in desktop use
I think my make.conf is screwed up/
I can’t compile host anything.
jpaetzel, thats no good
Can someone help me troubleshoot it?
what’s the error?
what flags do you have set?
CFLAGS=”-march=pentium2 -O2 -pipe -vomit-frame-pointer -fzomg-its-fasta-now”
Yeah?
Everything bombs.
i’m excited about the idea but i think that masked packages and all that are more than i want to deal with right now. is it possible to change my CFLAGS and emerge world without reinstalling?
only those? you need more. youre not optimizing
that -fzomg-its-fasta-now is hot
g’evening folks…am having trouble starting mysql server for first time, and following the docs
what package do i must install to get the clearlooks theme ?
Do I need to rock it hard with -O4?
ha1f I used to use like 30 gcc parameters, but I do not anymore on most computers
i dont want the whole gnome
just some parts of it
but he needs them. to harness the true power of the gentoo
You do that, hell set it at -O999
amirite jpaetzel?
Go all the way
I can’t afford to waste a CPU cycle man.
After spending 10 hours on the install.
lol
Yeah. I hate the 386SX mysel
I need a killer make.conf to help me recoup my time.
I heard if you compile with a compiler optimized it optimized compilations more betterer
no matter what i do ‘/etc/init.d/mysql start’ returns with the error “* php mysql web hosting NOT started” what gives?
l0! u’r s0 t0ta||y r!g|-|T!
http://rafb.net/p/FcHyNq46.html these flags are rather safe …
Dude, I’m trying to be serious here…I’m using gentoo cause I need the speed.
ok guys’
But so far it’s been an all day affair and I still don’t have anything running.
so i just recompiled my kernel with sata support. now it booted. but it took me to an empty prompt on a screen full of stuff
well youre not gonna get any speed with that week make.conf
and it says
*weak
/bin/bb: cant access tty; job control turned off
Someone rig me up.
and it has me at a prompt which looks like / $
did u manage to boot?
but it for somr reason didn’t detect my keyboard
Um…apparently I have Skype running but I dunno how to close it. It’s not on my taskbar.
so i cnat type
yes
How do I end a program that’s running?
kill 1
kill -9
woot
if you compiled with -04 it will run forever
i suppose ur in busybox now
at warp speed
drc822, ?
killall -9 app_name
a small shell
ha1f lol
rorachan, use top and kind the task number, then kill -9 it
Anything beyond -03 is -O3 anyway
drc822, i guess so. but it doesnt matter because my keyboard isnt working now
drc822, for some reason…
winning the ar against faster processors.
its juat a usb keyboard
nothing special
That’a a feature.
*just
is doubleagent still meeting with you tonight about that quartz app?
Come on… anyone? qc-usb
ya great feature
More secure without a console.
isnt working at all?
drc822, nope
But the direct root logins via ssh….
not at -all-
I guess so, i’m in the room but no one is home…
doesnt even poewr it on
well, i suppose that busybox doesnt support that
b14ck turn on legacy USB in bios.
i’d suppose that ur still in grub?
drc822, no im on the comp i suppose
or did u manage to boot to acrual gentoo?
im not on livecd
yes
ok
thats where im stuck atm
anyone able to provide some initial mysql help?
the live cd never worked for me didn’t even boot
in gentoo witout a keyboard and probably a ton of errors
I’m stuck in gentoo too and I want to get the hell off.
do as Spawned said
ok 1 min
for now anyways
get on freebsd
BUt I’ve wasted a day and I need to recoup some cpu cycles.
better yet, use ubuntu
jpaetzel, install sabayon
usb kbd is the devils invention
freebsd?
FreeBSD? Now that’s a man’s OS.
I don’t know if I can handle it.
i thought freebsd is dead
orly?
even more so than usb mice
JeetKuneDo, nah
Alright, alright. Let’s tone it down a few notches.
it’s a dying OS i hear
It’s dead.
jpaetzel, if your interest in gentoo but cant install it just install sabayon
freebsd is not dead
Well, I’m working on rolling my own distro.
sure it is
It underpins OS X, even without that, it’s far from dead
they don’t even have 20 000 users
but cant install gentoo?
does it have beryl? ill use it if its got beryl
I’m building an automagical distro builder.
drc822, haha
no wonder they can’t get flash 9 support hehe
drc822, apparently there is already usb turned on in bios
I’m coming in late, but do you have HID enabled in your kernel?
You pick two distros from a list and set a slider between them.
why should it?
and it just randomly smashes them together.
but b14ck do u?
drc822, what do u mean?
drc822, i just checked my bios
see phaedrusiszen
bleh , got an xscreensaver to run in my backgorounds root but transparency in xchat and eterm dont show the cool background
and ya its in there
i have tried 20 linux distros
So pick Gaybuntu and Frontier Guardsman Linux II and set the slider to 30% Gaybuntu.
legacy usb stuff or what?
and then click ‘hit me baby’
any iidears?
did u put usb keyboard or something in the kernel?
drc822, i didnt do it explicitly, i thought it would have it by defalut
guess ih ave to go back into it onw
Yes. All USB input devices require HID
hehee
bl4ck it should have it
hi, ive got ipv6 in my kernel, my ifconfig shows my ipv6 address, but anytime I try to do something with it I get a network unreachable error, anyone seen this before? My isp has native ipv6, and it works fine in windows, so I know that part is functional
and
where the ebuild for the atupmagic builder things?
i dont use USB input devices.. i think they are the devil
wtf is up with this?
hey drc822 is there a way to like compile support for every piece of hardware?
# whereis vi
vi:
and what flags do i need?
Need to have an IPv6 network set up
Otherwise have to tunnel IPv6 over IPv4
well, i suppose genkernel does that
How on earth can you have a nix box without vi?
but then u learn nothing
what do you mean?
drc822, genkernel doesnt work for me because of a bug with amd64
emacs?
just put the HID on and put ur kbd and mouse as modules
pico?
the kernel memory offset is at 100000 and shouold be at 200000
ok
what is HID and kdb ?
hid=human interface device
phaedrusiszen, what exactly do you mean, my isp has native ipv6
genkernel in a nutshell
kbd is short for keyboard
so i enable everything in menuconfig as a module
then what?
so there’s a HID section in the menuconfig so see that
ameritech has native v6?
no not everything.. ur usb keyb and mouse and stuff like that
yeah
ok
it works fine in windows
cool.
why cant i just tell it to compile in instead of a module
it almost works now
or if u wanna be sure.. put all usb keyb’s as a module
but Im getting this error
HID=Human Interface Device (for USB); kbd=Keyboard utils
dunno why
you’re probably not picking up an address.
are u sure which module it is?
its dynamic
drc822, no clue
Don’t enable everything as a module
ive got an address
do you have a global address on the interface or just a link-local one
stop arguing and do as you’re told please ;P
You at least need your root file system compiled in
so to be safe, put all usb keyb as module
d24/64
drc822, ok
ohh.
hehee
haha
that’s a link-local address
you need to accept ra probably?
lets see if my kernel boots after this
how do I do this?
why does gentoo have gentoo bsd?
Don’t post your IP in something like this. Although, posting your IPv6 has little risk
At least now
I’ve been told that gentoo is the ultimate OS for people that like dorking around with their OS.
true
as if his ip wasn’t available to all of us via, whois AMIRITE?
wow maybe freebsd isn’t dying
Whois needs a FQDN
freebsd isn’t the only bsd.
really?
wow
You mean there’s other dead BSDs too?
anyone have any idea why my win-key started to not work in X recently?
posting my ip has little threat when you can whois me, heh
is there a [KDE] tool that helps me monitor Network Traffic?
add net.ipv6.conf.default.accept_ra = 1 to your /etc/sysctl.conf
i heard bsd died a long time ago
simple*
jhujhiti, thank you
us linux users will beat the crap out of bsd
and sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.default.accept_ra=1
assuming they’re just using RA, not dhcpv6
dude
after getting this working
i’ll be a pro at configuring kerneles
BSD talk in #gentoo-chat please (unless you need support with it)
jhujhiti, is that second one a command, or does it go in there as well?
the sysctl is a command
Yes, and someday you might get something done with your computer, after you install a real OS on it.
ok, thought so
adding to sysctl.conf only makes it execute at boot
ah
no-one ever come across the flying-windowskey dying?
configuring kernels?
hey drc822 where is the HID stuff in menuconfig?
i dont see it
do I need ot bring eth0 down and back up for this to take effect?
windows is still used by most people
use / to search
nope
file onice.iso
onice.iso: ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data UDF filesystem data (unknown version, id ‘NSR01′) ‘CDROM
jpaetzel JeetKuneDo you’re both way off-topic
within a few seconds it should see an announcement
No. Although it’s going to be in your xorg.conf file
what is the way to only use ISO9660? my dvd does not write in UDF , any idea?
I haven’t heard anything new or innovative coming from freebsd in quit some time. I’d be surprised if it lasted 3 more years.
tcpdump -i ethX ip6 should show you the RA as it comes in.
kernel modules
and after you see one of them on the line, you should get an address momentarily
i’m on fedora how is gentoo as stable as fedora?
modprobe udf? I have all udf stuff I think …
opps
Is it safe to run “emerge -auDNtv system” on a minimal use command line system with no packages compiling? I am currently running just irssi and screen as my user (travis), that’s it
is gentoo as stable as fedora
so i’d think, but i cant see anything wrong with it and havent altered the kbd stuff lately
#gentoo-chat and we’ll happily discuss it
I didn’t realize that talking about real OS’s was offtopic here.
sure, just dont upgrade anything
shouldnt just pc105 kbd be enough?
lol
or boot it.
anything not related to gentoo support is off-topic in here
jpaetzel, Enough. This is your final warning.
BSD is crap, you have to admit that.
otherwise youll end up like jpaetzel, who cant do anythign becuase of his make.conf
I have those
# grep -i udf .config
CONFIG_UDF_FS=y
CONFIG_UDF_NLS=y
wow
#gentoo-chat please.
Yes it should. I’m wondering if something else grabbed that keyboard mapping
you can talk about whatever you like in #gentoo-chat (so long as it’s not illegal or offensive)
sorry
mzbot, teach pastebin to ruben
No such faq
Do I nees something more?
nedd
mzbot, teach ruben paste
Use http://rafb.net/paste or emerge wgetpaste. Pasting in #gentoo itself clutters the chat and will get you kicked by Naamah. Use the aforementioned site and hand us the URL so we can check it out.
well, i’ve tried two wm, pekwm and ion3, both are freaked out
xmodmap shows nothing on mod3 and mod4
Have you tried pebkacwm?
no
those aren’t ISO9660 are they? i’m a bit confused tbh
why?
wich module then?
wtf is ISO9660 anyhow? is that DVD-RAM or summat?
pebkacwm?!?!?
is specifying only only your video cards with VIDEO_CARDS in /etc/make.conf for the “mesa” package safe? I have VIDEO_CARDS=”nv v4l”
I don’t see why we have to be all hard-core about OS’s here.
appa_x All i’m saying about BSD is that.. when you talk to random people on the street.. at least they’ve heard of linux. they think freebsd is some kind of hardcore porn
yes
cdrom afaik
great
whats pebkacwm? how do i compile it?
hmm
lol
the basic thing
ok
that’s um.. man it’s been ages
I’m all about thinking McDonald’s makes the best burger you can get.
igli, iso9660 defines the filesystem most commonly used on cd-rom media.
freebsd …. hardcore porn !!!!!! lol
i have two things left before i can try a reboot
Because the common man has heard of it.
grow up please
and you can get them everywhere.
ot man
freebsd is actually quite good
I’m only running on a command line system (I like it, but just not for reading web pages)
not today ….
linux sort of reminds me of the McDonalds of Unix.
on gentoo, is there any way to make a full screen window strech to be the size of the screen
i want virtual box in full screen to take up the full screen
so, I think I’m going to emerge openbox and see what happens
Alright, let’s take the off topic down a notch, shall we?
++
Take it down a notch?
depends on the wm i suppose
Yes. As in stop it.
I’m just getting warmed up.
xfce4
can anyone help with initial mysql startup?
What’s the keyboard driver in xorg.conf?
just kbd
If you happen to have compiled syslogd and have it running you might peruse /var/log/messages to see exactly what mysql is complaining about.
i think i’ll be ok once the darned thing starts
this one time my brother was emerging world and his computer caught fire. does this happen often?
*sigh*
happend to my laptop
try Driver “keyboard”
i worked fine a while ago.. must be the wm i suppose
Uhmm, it tries to start, it detaches from the terminal, it can’t log there, so it logs to syslog.
is that different?
Yup
k,will try
what does the “startup-notification” USE flag do?
K
jpaetzel, i’ve tried following all the console messages, but every thing it tells me to do results in no-joy
There’s probably informative error messages in the logs that will tell you right off what the problem is.
will try
does it just spin that pretty mouse cursor and say “Starting…” in GNOME?
Dropping like fries.
Not to sound like I’m talking down, but after you make the change hit “CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE”
