gaft channelive built a jail within amd64 for my 32-bit apps like mplayer according to official documentation
Parser -av
anyone?
Err
emerge XML-Parser -av
emerge XML-Parser, and probably file a bug report if it’s a missing dependency
What sound hardware do you have?
emerge XML-Parser -av
err
what carebear said
CareBear\, audigy2
anyone know where I can go to talk about a freetype issue?
IRQ problem?
when you delete something from an NTFS volume in linux, where do the files go? .. I deleted a bunch of files on my ntfs partition but didnt see an increase in free space..
#freetype ?
empty
CareBear\, i don’t think so …cause i get sound, i just get a crackling that gets really annoying.
I was hoping maybe some sort of generic linux programming channel
Like distortion?
Check the mixer levels?
anything in particular i need to look for?
Maybe internal amps are on max, they usually don’t handle clipping very well.
re-emerged XML-Parser. that seemed to do the trick, thanks
Run alsamixer and if it doesn’t show dB values for each control emerge alsa-utils – make sure all levels are = 0.00 dB
what if the driver finds your card but claims that there is no codec
can anyone hear me?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?????????????????
no
ok, thx
Please file that bug for the ebuild.
ok
If I install gentoo from the LiveCD, can I run an Active Directory server through Samba out of the box (of course, having to change stuff in samba.conf)
you can
got sound working but i can’t test, lol
what should i emerge to get mp3, avi, wmv, etc support?
eth3r3al, if you install the correct packages and configure it correctly
Even a PDC?
CareBear\: even a PDC.
what packages would i need?
emerge mplayer IMO
CareBear\, should I set them all to max?
aha
Make sure none are above 0.00 dB
so db gain = 0.00 ?
eth3r3al, http://gentoo-wiki.com/Samba
Yep!
Also read up on the Samba documentation. There’s a good .pdf with a few 100 pages.
I ran rc-update del net.eth0 but still dhcpcd or what ever still starts it. What can I do to completely remove eth0 from my system and tell it to use eth1?
Nice. I’ve only done member servers.
wiki skkane emerge mplayer
thank you!

It’s better if you make udev set up the device names right.
CareBear\: you can’t do a 2003 AD, just NT4, but it is fully doable.
CareBear\: I don’t think i will live long enough to read all of that
Oh but the question was AD.
that is samba for you.
NT4 PDC I’ve done plenty.
ugh
I swear so violently against my service provider
Too bad. You should read it.
CareBear\, done …I still get a little static.
CareBear\: 2003 AD doesn’t have PDCs…
so how do I tell udev to use eth1 rather then eth0?
CareBear\: is there anyway to pull in dependencies to specific useflags rather than erroring out?
Ok, but the equivalent?
CareBear\: If i ever get the urge to burn my eyes out of my skull with a monitor, i will
Hmm, have you tried using built_with_use also in DEPEND ?
mzbot, tkz
CareBear\: it doesn’t really have equivalents. It is a peer-peer set-up. There are 5 roles which can only be fulfilled by one server, but they are not special in anyway other than that.
reisio, tkz i mean
CareBear\: is that possible?
what’s the command for adding a user to a group again?
Ok. I know it needs a Kerberos realm and a DNS at least, but I have intentionally stayed far away from AD.
Try it and let me know?
CareBear\: 2003 AD is a pain to run in a heterogenous enviroment. You can run samba member servers, but not domain controllers (at least, not samba3 DCs.)
eth0 is my firewire card but I don’t want it acting as network card I want eth1 that is my real network card. How do I tell udev to use eth1 rather then eth0?
Right.
Look in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
If you have ip over 1394 enabled in kernel you will get a networking interface for your fw card.
gpasswd with some option
edit /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and switch the eth# allocation
But change which gets what name in the files.
s/files/rules file/
thanks
ARGH this P3-650 is not enough
4.28, 3.43, 3.13
Is there a package for KDE 4 beta?
CareBear\: Not bad, I tend to arvage at 7 on an AMD DualCore 5000+
nothing about eth0 is in that file. where else can I look? I looked in 95-net.rules and it talks about net.sh but where is net.sh?
Perhaps you need an udev upgrade?
I would too if I was running all the catalysts that I want to.
pastebin the 70*net* file please
Ah what Miravlix said.
